Tauranga Golf Club is home to an 18-hole course set across approximately 45 hectares in the heart of the Bay. With a membership of around 1000, the club offers both 18-Hole and 9-Hole membership options to suit all golfers.
The Par 71/72 layout measures 5592/5160m from the back tees, carrying a NZCR of 69.8/72.8 and a Slope Rating of 115/120. Proud host of the Charles Tour’s Carrus Open, Tauranga Golf Club combines a welcoming community with a course enjoyed by golfers of all levels.
Located on the Racecourse Reserve in Greerton, Tauranga Golf Course offers a secluded and peaceful setting for golfers of all ages and ability.
The present course with its beautiful trees and hundreds of flowering shrubs is a lasting tribute to the untiring efforts of the original club members and in particular Mr A J Mirrielees who was Club President in the depression years of the 1930’s. Mirrielees used the Government Work Scheme of the time to plant out the 30,000 trees and shrubs, many of which are still in evidence today.
A number of Club members have represented New Zealand including the late Una Wickham, Mike Nicholson, Jay Carter, and more recently Eddie Burgess, Kevin Smith and Jared Pender. Eddie also won the NZ Amateur title in year 2000 and both Eddie and Jared have represented New Zealand at the Eisenhower Trophy.
Considered short by some players and strenuous by others because of the hilly terrain, the Tauranga course has earned the respect of top amateurs and professionals alike as an exacting test of shot placement and concentration. The course has interesting topography and variation in holes (it has been described as two courses in one) and its fairways and sand based greens are in beautiful condition as a result of permanent irrigation systems.
