Waahi Taakaro Golf Club

Situated in the peaceful and picturesque Maitai Valley just 10 minutes from central Nelson, Waahi Taakaro golf course is a well-maintained, challenging and affordable 9-hole course run and owned by the Nelson City Council

The Waahi Taakaro Golf Club, established in 1974, is known for the friendly welcome it give all golfers. It has clubrooms at the course that its members helped established. Among the events it hosts is the annual 27-hole Maitai Masters held at the end of March.

The undulating and tree-lined course, which twice crosses the Maitai River, is a lovely walk and a blaze of colour in the autumn. It is home to wood pigeons, quail and other wildlife and there are spectacular views down the valley.

The course is a par 72 and has different tees for the second nine. It measures 5936m off the blue tees, 5564m off the white tees and 5226m off the yellow tees, and has a slope rating ranging from 113 to 118 depending on what tees are played.

We welcome new members who receive a 10 per cent discount on their subs for their first year. Subs can be paid yearly, six-monthly or three-monthly, or monthly by direct credit.

There is a golf shop run by the club that hires clubs and trundlers, Three electric carts and sells a range of merchandise. The course has a putting green and a practice area for irons and nets. The club has bar and kitchen facilities and meeting rooms which can be hired out.
